Many of us take our smoke alarms for granted, we trust that if we have a fire in our home, our alarms will let us know. But Smoke and CO alarms aren’t built to last forever, your smoke and CO alarms need to be changed every ten years, whether they’re battery powered or plugged in. Most alarms will have an expiry date on them however even if that date hasn’t come up yet if you know your alarm is 10 years old you should change it right away. It’s important to test your alarms once a month, most alarms have a simple ‘test’ button. If your alarm runs on batteries you should also change the batteries once a year, most people do this on daylight savings as a yearly reminder. Fire and CO safety is incredibly important, not just for your home and family but all of your surrounding neighbours as well.
